Walnut Date Cookies!

Hello friends!

We’re getting in the holiday mood and ready to bake our cookies for Christmas! My Grandma’s recipe for Walnut Date cookies are the standard for the holidays in my family! For decades we have enjoyed this old fashioned favorite that is so tasty and good for your out of town visitors and those close to home. We hope you try it and enjoy them!

Walnut and Date Cookies

1 cup shortening
2 cups sugar
3 eggs
4 tablespoons of sour cream
2 teaspoons cinnamon
1 teaspoon cloves
1 teaspoon vanilla
1 teaspoon salt
3 1/2 cups flour
3 teaspoons baking powder
1 cup dates cut into pieces
1/2 cup chopped black walnut meats
1/2 teaspoon salt

Cream shortening, sugar and eggs together. Add spices, vanilla and sour cream. Sift salt and flour together and then mix in the baking powder to sifted mixture. Stir into creamed wet ingredients and after all flour is added and mixed in then add the nuts and dates. Drop by spoonful on a greased cookie sheet. Bake about 15 minutes or a little less in a 375 degree oven. This recipe will make approximately 5 dozen cookies.

Enjoy with family and friends!
